The last of the golden weather

Hornby High School Year 11 Geography field trip

Beach

Sophie Shaw, Danielle Bolton-Bryde and Sreyleak Toch counting waves at Taylor’s Mistake.

Beaches being “Kiwi as” we thought it would be a great field trip to take our students around a variety of Canterbury beaches and study their characteristics.

We travelled around the beaches of Corsair Bay, Sumner, Taylor’s Mistake and North New Brighton in the school vans. The students gathered information for their NCEA assessment and the staff did their best tour guide impersonations.

Students braved the conditions and had a swim at Taylor’s Mistake during lunchtime. We left every beach with a variety of recordings from which to base our study, there was also some amazing sand pictures from our arty students.

On Monday we were blessed with golden summer weather, unfortunately on the Tuesday it was not as pleasant, but our students were tough enough to cope.

Thanks to Miss  Martin, Mr Allen and the Hornby Working Men’s Club for the transport and organisation.
