Worm farming is nature’s way of recycling. It is a natural recycling system using worms and organic waste such as kitchen scraps from fruits, vegetables, tea bags, and more. When you feed suitable kitchen scraps to certain worms housed in a proper container, the resulting compost can be used as a nutrient-rich fertiliser for your garden.
Worm farms are great for the garden and also great for the planet as it reduces the amount of organic waste in the landfills. Not only do kids enjoy them, but worm farms have all the same benefits as regular composting.
To have a worm farm you need a suitable container to put the worms in. It needs a lid, space for the air to get in, and a system for draining the worm pee out. In a worm farm you can’t use ordinary garden worms; instead you’ll need tiger worms, red worms, or blue worms. Remember to never feed your worms citrus fruits, dairy products and spicy foods.
A properly maintained worm farm is kind to the planet and your sense of smell!
