There are many ways to find the space for your favourite vegetables and herbs even if you have no space for a garden outside.
You can create your garden inside in either containers found around the home (anything from plastic buckets, two or three plastic bags inside each other or even a couple of cardboard boxes), or in pots and trays specially designed for indoor gardening.
Concentrate on growing only those vegetables and herbs that benefit the most from being picked fresh and take up a small space.
Grow your own sprouts from seed. In about a week you’ll have something interesting to add to your salad. Some good ones are lentil, radish, mustard and broccoli. Rinse and drain them twice a day. A jam jar with a piece of cloth tied over the top will be a good container to grow your sprouts in.
You can also dig up some herbs in the winter months from your garden or buy some from the supermarket and plant them in pots on your windowsill. Chives, parsley and basil are popular. If you want you can also grow your own mushrooms in a pot to add to your cooking.
