A trip to the Biofuture

Emma LivingstoneMy name is Emma; I am 17 years old and am currently a Year 13 student at Avonside Girls High School.

This year I was one of 10 New Zealand students selected out of over 100 applicants to attend the Biofutures Biomedical Science Forum in Brisbane in July 2009.

At the forum I will be allowed to explore cutting-edge technologies and have the opportunity to meet other like-minded students. I have received funding from the Royal Society of New Zealand to attend the Forum.

I am really looking forward to this great opportunity as I hope to pursue a career in this area of science.

Next year I am planning to attend Otago University where I will either study Biomedical Science with a focus on genetics and development, or a more general degree in chemistry and biochemistry. I am interested in research and hope to pursue a career as a research scientist as I believe this will be very rewarding. It will allow me to contribute, hopefully quite significantly to the knowledge of the scientific community.
