Rides
2007 conference held following the deaths of Jane Young and Hannah Rossiter at a party on Edgeware Road.
Your thoughts and ideas on what we can do to bring the road toll down - from our November 2005 competition:
- Some sort of device on vehicles so that you can’t go over the speed limit
- Increase drinking age and driving age
- No drinking in public places
- Limit alcohol intake although it’s just about impossible as too many teens think it’s dope to drink. They need their idols to speak out against that sort of stuff so they won’t hop in a car with intoxicated people
- Keep the drinking at home - or don’t do it at all!
- Boy/girl racers need to stop thinking they’re invincible and stop trying to prove themselves to their mates
- Better indicating rules
- Slower speed limits and bigger fines
- Opening a drag strip on Friday and Saturday nights so boy racers have a safe place to race
- Limiting the power of cars for those on their restricted licence
- A couple more years on the driving age limit might mean a couple more years maturity and better judgement
- More speed cameras and police on the roads
- More road safety awareness in schools. Probably be a good idea to make it part of the curriculum.
- Drug testing should be part of getting your licence
- Need to be more aware of what the road code’s all about
- Put the drinking age up because at the moment, teenagers are getting their full drivers’ licence AND their licence to drink at about the same time, so unfortunately they’re experimenting with both together.
- Nothing
- Better quality roads
- How to handle a car in a dangerous situation
- Having people take YEARLY practical defensive driving courses
- Take all speeders off the road
- More police patrols
- Put the speed limit down to 80K
- Education about what to do in a crash situation
