How did you get into Shakespeare?
Through school. Robert Gilbert, my teacher at the time, heavily favours it in his teaching with drama and it's helped alot in understanding the language and even taught me in understanding what I'm saying with other plays also.
Did acting help you come out of your shell or have you always been a
performer?
Ha ha, it's helped alot actually. Ive always been a bit of a weirdo, but acting has certainly helped me be confident in myself and just do something rather than thinking about the "what if's". Especially this year with the touring, I've been able to find myself in a way I guess.
What's been the Shakespeare experience for you - how did young people
around the country react to the performances?
Wow, it's been amazing. Just to see the reactions and looks on the younger childrens' faces when they saw the colours, the humour and slapstick physicality of 'Bottom's Tale' was so wounderful. Even though they don't understand the language, they get the story from what they see, and its just so great to see that. The older students loved our comedic take of 'Macbeth' and it was great to hear the laughter coming from the audience and for them to know that Shakespeare can be fun and put into a way they can understand. I mean I never really understood Shakespeare and hated studying it in school, but when it came to performing it and actually bringing it to life, it got a lot more interesting becasue i could make it something that i could understand.
Touring means you have to spend a lot of time with the rest of the cast
and crew - what were some of the best bits of touring?
Well...haha, the best bits would definitely be all the memories of seeing the entire country with such close friends. Like being in the snow one day and having a snowball fight, to just relaxing in the camping grounds playing a board game or something. Theres just soo many memories to mention, that's the best.
And the worst?
The worst would have to be, finding time to be by yourself... it's hard when you're with four other people constanty moving and always doing the same thing, to find time to yourself, so you get irritated and you get moody, but we work through it.
Are you aiming for a professional arts / acting / entertainment career?
I would love one, but for now I'm focusing on Uni next year. In the future I would love to do something behind the scenes on movie sets or something. I'd like to work for Weta Studios, probably the arts and sets department.
Looking back on your amazing adventure, what will your lasting memory
be?
Wow, too many, um the beautiful country of ours, the fantastic friends I've grown closer to and love, the experience of a lifetime for my acting and what it's done for me as a person, I've found who I am as a person and I'm grateful for that. :)
Any shout outs and thank yous?
Most definatly. Thank you soo much to Robert, for asking me to be part of this life changing experience. To the rest of the cast for putting up with me and sharing this experience with; Fi you helped me so much, just with everything. Sara you have shined. Steven you have grown so much as a person and Andrew, you have learnt a lot.
