James Blunt scores big on his debut in Britain, and no doubt his smash hit single 'You're Beautiful' contributed to this success. His soulful voice is also familiar here in New Zealand, what with his songs on heavy rotation on the airwaves. This single (currently out in stores who have managers sensible enough to stock up on this item) proves James's ability and talent. His unusual voice sweetens the song, and lends a bittersweet feeling to the lyrics. One may feel that the lyrics are lacking in quantity, but for this song, "The less said the better" certainly applies. The background music in itself also deserves commendation.

Track Three - Knife - reviewed by Tane
Knife opens with the voice of honesty. He admits that whilst she is lovely she is not the one. His melancholic vocal line straddles the single guitar, the voice which represents the girl who hasn't yet comprehended the meaning of his words.
Her increasing anxiety is personified by the gritty guitars as she begins to question why his heart is made of stone. The chorus embodies the conflict of emotions between boy and girl. He is ready to move on while her world has just been torn apart.
A short reprieve from the argument occurs in the second verse as the boy attempts to placate the girl with the idea that some things are not meant to be.
The driving toms indicate high emotion as she begins to reflect upon their relationship. Her anger begins to fester as she fantasizes upon the details that she imagines him to have omitted. At the same time a harmonic vocal line indicates that he just wants her to accept that there is no chance for reconciliation.
The song quickly builds toward its climax as she makes a decision in madness that if she can't have him no one will.
Knife won its category in the Wellington Song Writing Event and was placed overall runner-up. Autumn Stone are based in Wellington and are currently compiling their first album. You can request Autumn Stone on radio and television.
