Custard Bear, Peachebones on road to SFRQ finals

Custard Bear from Christchurch Boys' High School and Peachebones from St Andrew's College are both competing for a place in the SFRQ finals.
Three-piece Custard Bear have been together for three years and drummer Jack Harre said hard work helped them win their regional final.
"We had rehearsed until we were sick of the sound of our songs but we knew they would stick together," he said, adding that the songs are "about random things like pie and milk and a tree called Jessica".
Peachebones vocalist Andy Manning said it was the band's energy that helped them win over the judges.
I think we stood out from the other bands because we had a different energy and style from anyone else. We're vibrant, we had a good sound and our songs are about down to earth stuff.
The top two bands from each regional final win musical gear from NZ Rockshops and their suppliers, and with the Smokefree People's Choice winners, go on to compete for one of eight national finalist spots in this year's Smokefreerockquest.
The national final will be held in Hamilton on Saturday, 11 September 2010.
